Examples of Best Practices in Supported Employment in Spain

In Spain, there are different entities and organizations that offer supported employment services, such as foundations, associations, and public employment services. Promoters want to highlight the commitment and good practices of the following associations:

Fundación Tas, established in 2002 with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families. They believe that people with disabilities are a great example because their effort, their determination to overcome challenges, and their great motivation are a huge source of inspiration. They specifically work with the Sustainable Development Goals 5 (gender equality), 8 (Decent work and economic growth), 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure) and 10 (reduced inequalities).

Laborvalía, established in 2002. The program of supported employment is launched as a measure to promote the empoyment of people with disabilities in the ordinary labor market, as it is framed within the Real Decreto 1/2013, of November 29, approving the revised text of the General Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and their Social Inclusion. The aim of the program is the “creation and maintenance of employment for people with disabilities”.
To achieve its goal, Laborvalía carries out the following actions: 1) orientation and counseling for job search, 2) labor training using new technologies, 3) design of personalized insertion itineraries, 4) prospection of job offers, 5) support within and outside the work environment (to the worker and their family, and to the employer), 6) task training for the job position, 7) monitoring and maintenance of the job position, and 8) business awareness campaign. The program also addresses the support needs of the families of the person with disabilities, based on actions carried out in person-centered planning and support circles.

The beneficiaries are:

  • People with cerebral palsy, people with mental illness, and people with intellectual disabilities with a recognized disability degree equal to or greater than 33%.
  • People with physical or sensory disabilities with a recognized disability degree equal to or greater than 65%.
  • People with hearing disabilities with a recognized disability degree equal to or greater than 33%.

acidH. Integració i Desenvolupament Inteligéncia Límit (Integration and Development of Mild Intellectual Disability), established in 1994. The employment insertion service of acidH is aimed at guiding and promoting the labor insertion of all those individuals with Mild Intellectual Disability (MID), Mild Intellectual Disability (MID), and other diversities who want to improve their employability and define their professional project. Based on the occupational diagnosis of each person, an individualized itinerary is created. It promotes the development of skills and competencies needed in the labor market and for job retention. acidH promotes the following programs:

  • SIOAS. Service of orientation, accompaniment, and support for the insertion of individuals (who are looking for a job or want to improve the one they have) between 16 and 65 years old with Mild Intellectual Disability, and other diversities. Its objective is labor insertion in ordinary companies.
  • SINGULARS. Program of orientation and labor insertion aimed at young people between 16 and 29 years old with Mild Intellectual Disability, and other diversities who want to enter the labor market or return to the educational system.
  • SUMEM. Program of orientation and labor insertion in the regular job market, aimed at individuals with Mild Intellectual Disability, and other diversities who want to improve their employability and define their life project.
